Remarks at the National Day Reception

By Amb. Yue Xiaoyong,

(Doha, Sept. 22nd, 2008)

Y. E. Hon. Ambassador Saif Mugaddam Al BuainainForeign Minister's Assistant,

Excellencies,

Colleagues and friends,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Al Salam Alaikom, and Ramadan Kareem!

Thank you all for joining us this evening on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. 59 years ago on Oct. 1st, 1949, the PRC was founded and the Chinese people finally stood up starting our great march for peace, development and prosperity. This joyful celebration comes every yearand this years’ gathering is additionally special.

It is also the 30th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up since 1978. The thirty years of efforts is the most glorious and magnificent chapter in the history of China’s modernization. Our reform is all round and opening up is unprecedented. Outstanding achievements have been obtained in all aspect. Over this period our average annual economic growth amounted to 9.7%. China now is the 4th largest economy and 3rd largest trade house in the world. The Chinese people are happy and they have been getting a better life every year.

It is an unforgettable year of our brave struggles facing the severe earthquakes in Sichuan Province. The whole nation is united as one, and our people showed their ardent courage and love. They help each other and care for each other in that most difficult time. While mourning for those who lost their loved ones, with full confidence we are striving real hard in building our new homes. I would like express here again our deep thanks for all sympathy, assistance and support from the people and government of Qatar and those of the whole international community.

It is the year of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and Paralymic Games, both are so successful and exciting. What is achieved goes beyond medals; it is a great manifestation of the Olympic spirit of fairness, solidarity, courage, peace and friendship. It is a historic moment for China, and also a real successful story for all mankind. The Chinese people are very happy to have the opportunity to share with, learn from and serve the peoples the world over, and would thank our friends from Qatar and all other participants represented here for your indispensible contribution and participation.

Last but not at all least; it is the year of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Qatar. Over the past two decades, Chinese-Qatari exchanges and cooperation have grown across the board and yielded real results. The year of 2008 is the one for bumper harvest.

We have high level dialogues between leaders rarely seen before. In April, H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jabir Al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited China. Two months later in June, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping came to visit Qatar, followed a bit more than one month later by visit of H.H. the Crown Prince Tamim bin Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani to Beijing attending the Beijing Olympic Games. Breakthroughs have been made in our bilateral cooperation, and both sides are engaging themselves with each other more closely. Leaders of two countries are joining their efforts as strategic partners in developing long-term friendly cooperation of equality and common prosperity.

We particularly appreciate the leading role HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, has played with his great team headed by HE Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jabir Al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, in promoting relations between our two nations. We highly appreciate Qatari government for holding firmly one China policy and support our efforts of peaceful reunification. I as Ambassador would thank Qatari Foreign Ministry and many other government agencies as well as non-government entities and friends for all you help, which have contributed substantially for the growth of our friendship and cooperation.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Looking into the future we are fully confident that relationship between China and Qatar will continue to grow. China will unswervingly follow a path of peaceful development and spare no efforts in our joint efforts with international society to build the world into a most peaceful, prosperous and harmonious one. China and Qatar are both developing countries. We share many in common in looking into this world and see where it should go. We respect and admire each other’s history and culture. Our economies are mutual-complimentary. In short, we both want to see a more peaceful and prosperous world with a fair, just and democratic international society. Sure enough, together we will and can achieve even more.

Please allow me to express the best wishes for the continuous development of China, for the friendship between China and Qatar, and for a harmonious, peaceful and prosperous world.

Thank you!
