Ambassador Cao Xiaolin published a signed article on Al Jazeera titled Remember History, Cherish Peace, Jointly Safeguard Fairness and Justice. Below is the full text: We are now living in a world where changes and turbulence are intertwined, and regional conflicts are dragging on. Countries are facing more severe security risks and challenges. Maintaining peace and promoting development are the common pursuits of China and Middle East countries. We have all suffered from external aggression and oppression, and have made joint efforts to secure our nations’ independence and liberate our people. In 1931, Japanese aggressors blatantly invaded China. They committed heinous crimes such as the Nanjing Massacre, and caused profound disasters to the Chinese people. After 14-year arduous struggles, the Chinese people defeated the Japanese invaders, won the great victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, and declared the complete victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. China was the main battlefield on the Eastern Front of World War II (WWII). Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression is an important part of the World Anti-Fascist War. China’s great victory is not only a victory for the Chinese people, but also a victory for the people of the world. On September 3 this year, China will hold a gathering marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Remembering history means defending the outcomes of victory of WWII and the post-war international order. Taiwan's return to China is a victorious outcome of WWII and an integral part of the post-war international order. Its historical and legal facts are beyond any doubt. China is ready to work with all countries to firmly uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core, jointly oppose hegemonism and power politics, practice true multilateralism, and join hands to build a peaceful world and a community with a shared future for humanity. Facing a complex and turbulent international landscape, China remains a staunch force for justice, safeguarding world peace and stability. The Global Security Initiative, proposed by President Xi Jinping in April 2022, provides a fundamental guideline for reducing the security deficit and pursuing lasting peace. Since the Gaza conflict broke out, China has upheld an objective and fair position, and been committed to safeguarding peace and lives. China pushed for the adoption of the first resolution of ceasefire in Gaza by the United Nations Security Council, facilitated the reconciliation dialogue and the signing of the Beijing Declaration by the fourteen Palestinian factions, and delivered multiple batches of humanitarian assistance to Gaza. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza must not continue, and the Palestinian question must not be marginalized once again. The legitimate aspirations of the Arab nation should be fulfilled as soon as possible, and the just voice of the vast Islamic world must be heeded. The “two-State solution” remains the only viable way out of the turmoil for the Middle East, and the international community should take more concrete and effective actions to this end. The Middle East belongs to its own people. It is not a wrestling ground for major-power rivalry, nor should it become a victim of geopolitical contest of countries outside the region. China is a strategic partner of Middle Eastern countries and a sincere friend of Arab brothers. China will continue to firmly fight for fairness and justice, and pursue peace and development for the people of the Middle East. China stands ready to work with Qatar and all the other countries in the region to independently shape our future, explore development paths suited to our own realities, and advance jointly on the journey toward national prosperity and rejuvenation. Let us bear in mind the great truth of history: Justice will prevail. Peace will prevail. The people will prevail. |
