The Chinese Embassy in Qatar held a media briefing on May 19. H.E. Ambassador Cao Xiaolin briefed the press on the meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump and the common understanding reached by the two presidents, China-Qatar relations, as well as China’s policies and positions on relevant issues. 

Ambassador Cao Xiaolin stated that President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump agreed on a new vision of building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability to provide strategic guidance for China-U.S. relations over the next three years and beyond, promote the steady, sound and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations, and bring more peace, prosperity and progress to the world. The two presidents have reached important common understandings on handling their mutual concerns in a proper manner. They both agreed to strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional issues. Interactions between the two presidents have enhanced mutual understanding, deepened mutual trust, advanced practical cooperation, increased benefits for the people of both countries, and injected much-needed stability and certainty into the world.

Ambassador Cao Xiaolin said that the past years have witnessed a high quality development of the China-Qatar relations. The two sides firmly support each other on issues concerning their respective core interests and major concerns. China-Qatar mutually beneficial cooperation enjoys enormous potential and broad prospects. China stands ready to take the implementation of its 15th Five-Year Plan as an opportunity to write a new chapter of win-win cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Cao Xiaolin elaborated China’s policies and position on the Taiwan question, Xinjiang-related issues and the situation in the Middle East.

Ambassador Cao Xiaolin also answered questions from the journalists regarding the impact of China-US relations on the situation in the gulf region, practical cooperation between China and Qatar, etc.
